An English will may refer to overseas assets, but that does not mean every foreign institution or succession rule will give effect to it in the same way. Local property law and inheritance rules can require advice in the country concerned. A second will can also create accidental revocation problems if it is not coordinated.

We discuss the England and Wales will and flag where foreign legal advice is needed. Bring copies of existing overseas documents and explain which assets each is intended to cover. Do not sign a replacement will in either country without checking how it interacts with the other.
