Everything that follows — charge, caution, NFA (no further action) — is shaped by the police interview. Legal advice at the police station is free for everyone; the mistake most people make is going in alone or accepting whoever is on duty. You are entitled to choose your own solicitor rather than the duty solicitor. Our solicitor will:

• Speak to the police before the interview and obtain disclosure of the allegation
• Advise you privately on whether to answer questions, provide a prepared statement, or make no comment
• Sit with you throughout and intervene if questioning is improper
• Push for the best outcome at the earliest stage — often no further action

A voluntary interview (a "caution +3" or "invitation to interview") feels informal — no arrest, you can leave at any time. It is not informal. It is an interview under caution, everything is recorded and can be used in evidence, and people are regularly charged after voluntary interviews. You have the same right to free legal advice as someone under arrest. Never attend without a solicitor.
